The Founders of the Fotomarathon
 |
Edith Maria Balk
Edith is a freelance graphic designer (www.edmadesign.de). She participated in the first Fotomarathon in 1998, winning the first place. After the award ceremony she met the organizer Konrad Retzer and they fell in love. In the following years, she was responsible for the artistic coordination and took care of all things related to image, graphic and Jury. Her long term goal was to establish the Fotomarathon in Berlin as an art and culture event. She is happy that with Andrea Figari and the team the idea of the Fotomarathon has gone further and developed. She lives together with Konrad and their son Anton Bela in Berlin

Jörg Meyerhoff
Jörg studied in Madrid and in 1987 he participated in the Maratón Fotográfico, where around 2500 participants moved through the Spanish capital for 24 hours to make 24 photos. He took the idea back to Munich and organised small Fotomarathons with up to 30 people with friends and acquaintances. In 1997 he was reunited with his old school freund Konrad Retzer, who since then was one of the co-organisers. Together, from 1998 until 2001 they tried broaden the concept for Berlin, looking for sponsors and printing postcards, hoping for around 500 participants. After bitter financial losses, Jörg abandoned the project in 2001. The Berlin Fotomarathon developed superbly under the new direction. In 2006 Jörg participated once more in the organisation. Like in the early days, he continues to work as a free lance print journalist.

Konrad Retzer
Together with Jörg, Konrad organised private Fotomarathons. He brought to Berlin the idea of observing the city with a new point of view, he wanted to portrait the active experience of the city. The concept of the changing meeting points and the exhibition of all participants´photos were his creative projects and herigage. Together with Jörg, Konrad organized the first public Fotomarathon in Germany, during which he really won the first prize: his wife Edith, with whom he now has a son Anton Bela. As professional project manager, he has coordinated the organisation of the Fotomarathon and was responsible for the finances. He is happy that the Fotomarathon develops so well without him.
